Looking back in the origin of photography, in 1840, Talbot invented the calotype process, creating the negative images, while John Herschel contributed to the development of many new photography techniques. How long could it have avoided picturing the dead – ‘what,’ as Holmes put it, ‘war leaves after it’? This system uses a series of high resonance frequencies to vibrate the optical low-pass filter. During that war, the most dramatic pictures of the conflict came not so often from the newspapers as from the weekly photojournalism magazines, photos that still are famous today.

Richard Maddox improved on a previous invention to make dry gelatine plates that were nearly equal with wet plates for speed and quality. He was able to produce a sharp negative onto silver chloride and make it permanent (i.e. it didn't fade immediately) enough to mail to his brother. (d. 1833) His experiments proved that chemically transferring images of objects and pictures (as opposed to manually or mechanically doing so) with the aid of light, could be achieved.
